End of Season Awards Dinner

Our end of season dinner and awards night will be held on 10th October at RedChilliez Restaurant, 629 London Road, Westcliff (7.30 pm for 8pm ).The restaurant offers South Indian delicacies and has put together an excellent menu for just £20 per head. The club will be offering a discount to “subscription scheme” members and 2018 season players and officials.

In addition to the fabulous cuisine, we will also be presenting trophies for the leading bowler, leading batsman, Players’ Player of the Year, the David Thomas trophy for outstanding performance and the Ken White Cup for outstanding contribution. There maybe some other special awards and hopefully a few surprises too. It looks like being a fun evening but we will need your support to ensure this and we would love to see there so please let me know asap if you would like to come along.

2018 was a great season, let’s see it off with a bang.

Tri-Series Cup / Awards Dinner

We closed out the 2018 season with a fabulous day at Chalkwell Park, where the sun shone and a good time was had by all. Mount were victorious, defeating Old Westcliffians and a hastily thrown together WOSCC side to retain the Nick Clough trophy. Afterwards, we even had time for a 10 over thrash between two scratch sides just for fun. Our thanks to WOSCC for hosting, Peter Shaw for organising the OW side, Clarissa for scoring, Stewart for officiating and to everyone who came along and made it such a good day.

The season has now ended but before we begin our winter hibernation, a few notices for you. First, the annual awards dinner is in the final planning stages and we are hoping that it will go ahead on either the 2nd or 3rd October – possibly the following week but details to follow soon. Would all current trophy/cup holders get in touch asap to arrange the return of their prizes. Secondly, in addition to the awards dinner and the AGM (early December), there are a number of social events planned through the off-season and we will announce these as and when details are finalised.

Finally, a huge thank you to all of you – all the players, committee members, officials, Mount supporters, and our families - who permit us to indulge our love for this magnificent game - 2018 has been a successful season for Mount on and off the field and it would not be possible without your efforts and support.

Teamsheet: Nick Clough Tri-Series, Sunday 16th September 2018 @ Chalkwell Park. 1200 Start.

We close out our season with the Tri-Series tournament vs Old Westcliffians and WOSCC. The three teams will do battle for The Nick Clough Cup at The Ground of Legends where greats such as Larwood, Bailey, Gooch, Montellier and many others including my dog Basil have taken the field.

Mount have a strong side and are optimistic of retaining the trophy they took off OW last year. However, two-time winners, Old Westcliffians, in an effort to regain the treasured silverware, appear to have widened their net and qualifying criteria to include anyone who did at some point attend a school. Any school. Anywhere.

WOSCC are great competitors and will no doubt come to win, but are short of players – maybe they thought it was six-a-side again. Anyway, the other teams will no doubt help them out. Some inter-team transfers may be necessary so, despite our numerical strength, any other available players will be welcomed with open arms and, more importantly, an open bar at WOSCC. If you are available, please let me know.

The following are all selected and will, barring injury, all play on Sunday.

  1. W. Foley *
  2. D. Summers
  3. T. Duffin
  4. P. Offord +
  5. S. Jackson
  6. I. Frankel
  7. P. Southward
  8. G. Williams
  9. R. Green
  10. N. Smith
  11. M. Hare
  12. A. Lukose
  13. V. Vayalveettil
  14. D. Mackay

Players to be at the ground by 11.30, earlier if possible so we can get underway asap – light may not be on our side later in the day.

There will be a BBQ running from around the conclusion of game 1 and the bar will be open all day. Players’ families, friends and supporters are most welcome for what should be a great day to close out a great season.

I look forward to seeing you then.
