AGM 2019

The Club AGM is this Sunday (Dec 1st) and will be held at the Pavilion at ACG. Proceedings will get under way at 10.30 and all are very welcome. There will likely adjourn to a nearby hostelry afterwards to get the Christmas celebrations off to an early start.

The agenda is attached and I look forward to seeing you then.

Captain's Log, Star Date 811- 2019

I hope you are well and enjoyed/managed to avoid Halloween and Guy Fawkes depending upon your preferences. Despite the 2019 season being well behind us and 2020’s first fixture still 177 days a way, we have not been idle here at Mount CC and there are a surprising number of things to update you on during this normally fallow period.

Indoor Cricket League

First, there will actually be some MCC cricket this winter as we have entered the local indoor cricket league. Fixtures are held at Westcliff HS for Boys on Wednesdays at either 7.30 or 8.30pm and our first game is next week (13th Nov) vs Leigh 2s. The six a side format is fast and furious and should be good fun. I will send the full fixture list in due course. If you would like to play or come a long and watch, drop me a line.

Bootcamp

Last year’s pre-season training proved so popular that I have finally caved in to much nagging and agreed to start these sessions earlier than last year and run them throughout the winter. We kick-off this Sunday (10th Nov) at 10am at AC’s Sports Hall with a gentle session to ease everyone back into things....honest! Once again I will be acting as “torturer in chief” and at some point some indoor cricket and football will no doubt break out. Do please feel free to come along and blow away a few cobwebs and get yourself in shape ahead of the Christmas onslaught. Please let me know if you are planning to join us.

2020 Season Fixtures

I am delighted to say that despite some understandable initial pessimism following the all too frequent failure by some of our opposition to raise a side last year, we have a revitalised fixture list in place for 2020. There are some new names on there with some interesting places for us to visit , some new sides coming to the ACG as well as some encounters with old friends and regulars. I expect the full list to be completed very soon and would like to thank Toby Duffin for his excellent work in pulling together a really exciting looking schedule. The finalised list will be announced at the AGM. Which brings me neatly on to...

2019 AGM

This will be held at the ACG Pavilion at 10.30am on Sunday 1st December. Everyone is welcome to come along and hear what on earth the Committee has been up to and to share your views on where we are going wrong, what we should be doing better and how on earth Montellier won two trophies last season. Seriously, we welcome and value your views, and new voices always help to keep things fresh. There will be more details to follow including the agenda but I can reveal that there will very likely be the opportunity to raise a seasonal glass or 3 afterwards.

2020 Tour Options Survey

Following the cancellation of 2019’s tour to Somerset and the need to shorten the tour the year before, we are considering what we should do with regard to touring next year and beyond. As a committee, we have been discussing whether the club should continue with the tour in its current format, try an amended, possibly shorter format again, consider alternative touring options or just call it a day. However, regardless of our thoughts on what might work best, if we fail to generate sufficient support in terms of player numbers, none of the options will be viable. We have therefore put together a short survey asking players to opine on these ideas and this will be (may already have been) circulated. If you have not received this yet and would like to, please get in touch. We will extend the survey to non-players/supporters once we have received the players input, if appropriate.

...and finally...

A huge thank you to all those of you who sent me birthday wishes upon the sad news of the club skipper no longer being a member of the youth set up at Mount. I spent a fabulous birthday week in Thailand with Simone and the girls and it was so nice to hear from so many Mounties. It was only the second and, very likely, the last time I’ll get to “raise my bat” as a Mount player but thanks again for your messages.
